In 1996, Mr. Sifers
became the FIRST person who was not an attorney or in
law enforcement in Oklahoma to receive CERTIFICATION &
FORMAL TRAINING as an Operator on these Intoxilyzer 5000
breath test machines. These machines are the primary testing
device in DUI Cases. In 2000, the Oklahoma Board of Tests
for Alcohol and Drug Influence (the Oklahoma State agency
over these machines) held it's first class for Certification
of NON-LAW ENFORCEMENT Operators and Maintenance
Specialists/Supervisors. Mr. Sifers - and Charles L. Sifers,
his father and law partner - made up ˝ of that training
class! He has maintained his certifications as a breath test
Operator and Maintenance Specialist every year since. He now
is a co-owner of eight of these machines!
In 2006, Mr. Sifers became the FIRST of two (2)
defense attorneys in Oklahoma to graduate from a formal
training course on the NEW breath device that is coming to
Oklahoma law enforcement any day. This new machine is called
the Intoxilyzer 8000. The only OTHER person to have
completed that course is his law partner, Charles!
Mr. Sifers has presented papers or lectured to lawyers,
judges, and/or law students about DUI Defense in Oklahoma
more than 25 times on the topics of Field Tests, Drug
Recognition, and Breath Testing for organizations such as
the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Oklahoma Bar
Association, and Oklahoma University School of Law, to name
a few. Ask any OTHER lawyer
if he has been asked to speak to groups that
often!
In fact, he is the ONLY known person in Oklahoma history
to lecture at a seminar for the Oklahoma Bar Association in
the morning as a non-lawyer, be sworn in as a lawyer later
that day, and FINISH lecturing at that seminar as a licensed
Oklahoma Lawyer!!
He has also lectured to lawyers in Nevada, Texas, Ohio,
and California. He has co-authored papers for presentation
at the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in
Las Vegas and the National College for DUI Defense at
Harvard Law School. Ask any OTHER lawyer if he/she has ever
done that!
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Sifers was a
consultant to SEVERAL lawyers in Oklahoma on alcohol related
cases, INCLUDING at least ONE of those other lawyers who
represents himself as a DUI Lawyer. He also testified as an
expert/opinion witness in DUI cases in Oklahoma, North
Carolina, Georgia.
Mr. Sifers was Oklahoma's FIRST
non-law enforcement person to be certified in Standardized
Field Sobriety Tests. He was one of the trainers for his law
partner (Charles Sifers) and at least one OTHER lawyer in
Oklahoma you claims this credential so proudly!
About 3 years ago, Mr. Sifers graduated from a Drug
Recognition Training ("DRE") program. Of the three (3)
persons that are NOT in law enforcement in Oklahoma who have
graduated from this DRE training program, two (2) of those
three (3) are Mr. Sifers and his law partner, Charles.
He is a member of the National Association of Criminal
Defense Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the National
College for DUI Defense, and the American Association for
Justice.
In short, although a young lawyer, he is many years ahead
of almost any other lawyer when it comes to DUI Defense! |
